A Presentation of Tradition

Kannawidan festival celebrates the founding anniversary of  Ilocos Sur. It is a week long celebration starting at the last few days of January to the first week of February. Major activities are often celebrated in the City of Vigan. Where all the cities can gather up to showcase their each and unique traditions and cultures through dances and design. They also sell their own product like delicacies and woodwork from different cultures in each city.

Apart from this, nothing is more exciting than viewing the most awaited festival dance. Which the beat of the drums brings thrilling excitement to the viewers. Not just that, the winner of the kannawidan festival dance will receive a certain cash prize encouraging people to join. These dances expresses their rich culture in different fields including arts, agriculture, dance, music and food.

Kannawidan festival has always been part of my childhood. I never miss a chance to celebrate this massive event here in Vigan. Even though I always see this and experience this, I never felt bored about it. But instead I tend to enjoy it more completely learning different traditional styles, practices and many more. It is not just a work of art it is a reflection of my hometown and our ancestors hard works
